Impressive Guéré or Wé mask from Côte d'Ivoire. This artwork exudes a powerful and primitive force. The primary purpose of these masks is to create fear and terror. In case of clan conflicts, these masks are used. They can resolve disputes without bloodshed or dishonoring any of the clans.
This mask bears a stern expression, with piercing eyes and a slightly open threatening mouth. It shows its metal teeth. The volumes are skillfully crafted and typical of masks from this culture. It is covered with several layers of old paint. The colors are beautiful and vibrant. Fabrics adorn the edges of the mask.
