Brass tray in the Antique (Vittoriano) style, dating to circa 1850–1900.
Description from the seller
Decorative brass tray engraved – Anglo-Japanese style, Aesthetic Movement – circa 1880
Detailed description
Elegant brass incised tray/vidé-poche, likely made in the British area during the Victorian period, around 1875–1890. The model belongs to the production of the Aesthetic Movement, heavily influenced by the Japonist taste that characterized the era.
The surface features a rich hand engraving with naturalistic motifs: ferns, wheat stalks, flowers, dragonflies, and a small bird in flight, typical themes of the 'Anglo-Japanese' aesthetic.
The shaped form with folded corners recalls Japanese prints and papier-mâché, which was very popular in Victorian design. On the back, there are two reinforcement discs and a hand-engraved mark (a rhombus with a central dot), probably a workshop sign or a manufacturing number. A refined decorative object with a collectible taste.
