Russian icon with a silver oklad — Saint Petersburg 1836
Vision of the Mother of God at Saint Serge of Radonège. Tempera on a wooden panel, covered with repoussé and chased silver oklad, stamped. Description: This icon depicts the Vision of the Mother of God appearing to Saint Serge of Radonège, a prominent Russian monastic figure of the 14th century. In the center, the Virgin blesses the kneeling saint, while Christ appears in the clouds, in heavenly glory.
Several hierarch saints accompany him as intercessors. The surface painted in tempera is entirely preserved beneath the oklad, with the faces and hands remaining visible.
The silver object features a rich, raised floral border and an architectured background. Hallmarks • 84 (zolotniki): silver purity 875/1000.
