Description from the seller
Oval reliquary of the Holy Face and relics - Belgium - 19th century
Oval reliquary under glass, monastic work, 19th century.
In the center, an ancient engraving of the Holy Face (Vera Icon / Veil of Veronica), depicted as suspended from a bluish silk veil. The image is surrounded by an elegant decoration of gilded paperolles (rolls and filigree of paper), arranged on a background of deep blue embossed velvet.
Four small fabric-embedded relics are visible in the composition, each inserted into a pearl-bordered circular setting. They are presented without nominative labels, which is common in this type of monastic reliquary. This reliquary does not contain any human remains.
The glass protects the entire frame. The frame shows signs of age-related wear (chips around the edges, scratches, and minor damages visible), but the interior remains well preserved and legible.
Photos are an integral part of the description of the objects and complement their presentation. They allow you to assess their condition and characteristics. Please examine them carefully before any commitment.
The item will be carefully packaged and shipped with a tracking number to ensure fast and secure delivery.
Happy bidding
In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as a sacred art object. The relics it contains are not the subject of the transaction but are included gratuitously for their historical and cultural value.
