Roman antique sigillata oil lamp with a sheep holding a heart, dating to the 4th century CE and expertised by Marie-Margaux Cohen; dimensions 14.1 cm long by 8.2 cm wide.
Description from the seller
Rare Christian oil lamp made of glazed pottery decorated with a sheep.
Oblong reservoir, large canal with straight edges, open on the disc, two symmetrical bands decorated with a geometric frieze alternating triangles and hearts. The handle is full, triangular, and inclined backwards. A canal with straight edges communicates with the disc. The disc is decorated with a sheep passing to the right, holding a heart with its snout.
The annular base is connected to the loop by a ridge, all in the shape of a handle. Under the base, at the center, two hollow circles.
Dimensions: length 14.1 cm - width 8.2 cm
Lamp in excellent condition - just a few calcium deposits.
