Description from the seller
Very rare carved alabaster cup decorated with inlaid black stone hearts.
Flat-bottomed bowl with a flat lip and circular foot, featuring two small handles each topped with a relief feline. The walls of the bowl are decorated with a geometric pattern of triangles and chevrons.
Mesopotamia, North of the Arabian Peninsula, 1st millennium BC.
Diameter 11.7 cm - height 3.6 cm.
Good condition - restoration
Provenance: France, D.T.B. Study.
Previous provenance history: Former collection of F Antonovitch, a famous collector and antique dealer.
This piece, sold with numerous South Arabian alabaster sculptures belonging to the collector, could have the same provenance.
