Egyptian alabaster composition depicting Leda and the Swan.
Rare depiction of Leda seated on a throne. She holds a swan in her arms, its head resting on her left shoulder. In the background, there is a vegetal scene with a flower at the center that has eight petals.
According to mythology, Zeus took the form of a swan to seduce Leda, wife of Tyndareus, king of Sparta.
Egypt, probably Alexandria, late period, 4th/5th century AD.
Dimensions: height 8.5 cm - width 7.1 cm
Very good state of preservation
Provenance: Germany, Hamburg, Galerie K.Z.A.
