Unglazed Persian ceramic jug from the 10th / 12th century AD.
Vertical-handled terracotta pitcher with rich molded decoration of multiple friezes of characters and geometric shapes.
The jug rests on a circular foot, with a vertical handle. It is topped with a straight neck, ending in a wide, flared round mouth.
The biconical vessel is decorated at the shoulder with a frieze of alternating stars and three series of stylized figures presented in pairs. There are also three other friezes featuring symbols and geometric shapes.
Dimensions: height 18.4 cm - width 17.3 cm
Islamic art, Susa region, 10th / 12th century or earlier.
