Exceptional because of its size.
Ciboure stoneware vase signed Garcia De Diego (1904-1969)
Beautiful and important stoneware vase from Ciboure decorated with Basque dancers. View of a farmhouse and peasants with oxen.
Signed by the painter Garcia de Diego. RF mark.
The Ciboure factory is distinguished by a neo-Greek appearance. These Basque potteries have experienced a renewed interest in recent years.
In 1919, Louis-Benjamin Floutier, a painter, a certain Lukas, a turner, and Étienne Vilotte, a cabinetmaker, launched a production of stoneware pottery in Ciboure. After World War II, the factory was bought by the Fischer family; their son closed it in 1995. The pieces, part of Basque heritage, are recognizable by their Neo-Grec and Art Deco styles from the 1920s-1930s, combined with regional iconography, the 'neo-Basque,' which permeated the Basque Country during the interwar period. For about fifteen years, these potteries have been brought back into the spotlight. Karl Lagerfeld even dedicated a book to them in 2004. Furthermore, since 1960, three generations of the Goicoechea family have continued the tradition in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, creating highly decorative pieces that captivate the world.
The installation in the Basque Country (for the Ciboure manufacturing site) was not chosen at random: the region is rich in significant deposits of clay and, in particular, a red earth from the 'La Négresse' tile factory in Biarritz, which will give a beautiful pinkish-beige color to their stoneware.
In Bayonne, the Basque Museum traces the history of these ceramics, easily recognizable by their typical themes and warm colors. A production spanning 75 years, which helped shape the identity of a region.
Perfect condition.
Container: 20 cm in diameter and 29 cm in height.
Highly protected shipment with insurance will be provided.
