Fossil fish Centriscus strigatus on a natural plate from Germany dating to the Paleogene (Eocene), weighing 1589 g with dimensions of 278 × 166 × 28 mm, the main specimen measuring 128 mm and a second fragment present.
Description from the seller
Centriscus strigatus – Fossil trumpetfish (with two specimens)
The input is a dash character, which does not require translation.
Description:
This fossil slab weighing 1589 grams and measuring 278 x 166 x 28 mm houses a magnificent specimen of Centriscus strigatus, also known as trumpetfish for its iconic elongated shape and characteristic tubular mouth. The main individual, perfectly preserved, reaches a length of 128 mm, clearly visible and distinguishable in its elegant silhouette.
The provenance is one of the most renowned for preservation quality: Germany, a land famous for its fossil deposits rich in extraordinary details. However, the most fascinating aspect of this piece is a detail that makes it even rarer and more valuable: on the lower part of the slab (not visible in the photo), there is also a second fossil fragment, most likely belonging to another Centriscus strigatus, which testifies to the exceptional nature of the fossilization environment and the presence of multiple individuals.
The species Centriscus strigatus belongs to the Aulostomiformes, a group of elongated bony fish whose slender and aerodynamic structure can today be observed in similar forms such as modern needlefish. The details of the fins, the vertebral column, and the profile are still recognizable, making this specimen a perfect subject for study and contemplation.
The refinement of the matrix, the clarity of the imprint, and the presence of a second specimen make this sample a prestigious addition to any paleontological collection.
Kire Minerals is proud to offer such a complete, evocative, and scientifically relevant fossil, carefully selected for passionate collectors, museums, and scholars.
