Asie service in Art Deco style, dating to 1930–1940, made of glass (Verre) by Val Saint Lambert for Luxval, Belgium, comprising a carafe and six cups, in excellent condition with only minor signs of wear.
Description from the seller
This remarkable drinkware belongs to the 'Asia' model, created by Val Saint Lambert and published in the famous Luxval catalog of 1935, developed under the artistic direction of Charles Graffart and René Delvenne. Typical of Belgian Art Deco aesthetics, this set is distinguished by its bold geometry and the purity of its clear glass, designed to combine elegance, functionality, and high-quality mass production.
The set includes a carafe and six glasses, all featuring the formal characteristics of the Asie model. The carafe unfolds into a broad silhouette, marked by vertical panels deeply molded that narrow towards a decagonal base shaped in steps, ensuring stability and visual presence. Its angular handle, perfectly transparent, complements the slightly pinched spout, whose smooth line naturally follows the flow. The glasses rest on an tiered octagonal base, topped with a ringed stem rising to a wide, flared bowl. The bowl repeats the same vertical ribbed decor, rhythmically alternating between hollows and reliefs, offering a luminous appearance and an immediate kinship with the carafe.
The overall condition of the service is excellent. The entire piece shows no cracks or chipping, and the transparency of the glass remains intact. Only a few superficial usage scratches can be observed, consistent with the age of the parts and in no way affecting the readability of the design or the quality of presentation.
The Asia model is fully aligned with the context of Luxval, a major initiative launched in 1935 by Val Saint Lambert to offer accessible, modern Art Deco creations produced through high-precision molding. Under the influence of Graffart and Delvenne, the manufacturer then explores a bold geometric vocabulary, playing with architectural volumes and light effects to renew utilitarian and decorative glass. This service perfectly illustrates this approach: rigor in shapes, rationality of design, and technical mastery typical of Val Saint Lambert's great Art Deco period.
The average dimensions are:
Carafe:
- Height: 19 centimeters,
- Length: 22.5 centimeters,
- Width: 13.5 centimeters.
* Glasses:
Height: 8.2 centimeters.
Upper diameter: 9.6 centimeters.
- Base diameter: 6.7 centimeters.
Total weight of the set: 2375 grams.
Each of the 7 pieces will be carefully packaged, and the entire set will be shipped quickly and securely. In-store pickup and combined delivery are available. Photos are part of the description.
