Del Guardare by Luigi Ghirri is a first edition Italian–English softcover book from 2006, 120 pages, published by Baldini Castoldi Dalai editore, featuring 40 colour photographs with Italian and English text and an introduction by Ilaria Ghirri and Paola Borgonzoni.
Description from the seller
Unique and today, an unfindable copy of this book by Luigi Guirri, published in 2006, is available online. It contains 120 pages and 40 color photographs, almost all full-page, outside the text. The text is in Italian and English, with an introduction by Ilaria Ghirri and Paola Borgonzoni. At the end of the book, there are captions for the photographs, including locations, dates of the shots, and the origins of the works. The book is paperback with a soft cover, including flaps, and features an illustrated cover.
To better view the photographs, you can click on one of them to display it on a black background, which highlights it even more and is equipped with front/back functions that you can also exit at any time to return to the standard display.
This book was published on the occasion of an exhibition organized as part of the European Photography Week in Reggio Emilia in 2006, highlighting 'the issue that has always accompanied Luigi Ghirri: the mutation of the quality of the gaze, the desire for a re-foundation of the gaze, according to Luigi Ghirri's own words; the desire to rediscover a particular ecology of the gaze and the desire to build an open work, always in motion, that is constantly open to new readings and interpretations, in order to create multiple perceptual paths and reflections on the outside world' (excerpt from the text by Ilaria Ghirri and Paola Borgonzoni). Many texts by Luigi Ghirri, which shed light on his thoughts and photographic work, are published alongside the photographs, including one where he asks: 'You look through the window, but who is the one looking? I remember this story by the writer Italo Calvino, who said that it is the world that looks at the world.' In the series of photographs reproduced here, the person photographed with glasses is Claude Nori, a photographer and friend of Luigi Ghirri who published a book in 1976 titled 'Les Lunettes'.
