AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Exceptionally signed copy on the title page by Franco Fontana, unique and unavailable in signed copies, a non-commercial edition published by the transport group Transmec. 260 pages and 120 full-page color photographs, sometimes on recto only, with precise location of each photograph, texts in Italian by Valerio M. Manfredi. Publisher's hardcover binding illustrated on the cover and a sturdy editorial box.

To view the photographic series in full screen, double-click on a photograph, then you can return to the standard display at any time.

Fascinated by the United States, Franco Fontana practices here a documentary style in service of this project and practically creates a conceptual work, with photographic writing that is somewhat familiar but always characterized by the talent that defines his art.

Route 66 is an old American highway that connected Chicago (Illinois) to Santa Monica (California) between 1926 and 1985. The 3,940-kilometer route crossed three time zones and eight states (from east to west: Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California). Its central point was in the small town of Adrian, Texas. It was the first paved transcontinental route in America. With the development of highways, Route 66 lost its utility and is now only a historical memory.

From the age of 16, Franco Fontana (born in 1933) was fascinated by the United States, which he discovered through books and cinema. In 1979, he spent his first 20-day stay there, and he returned many times during the 1980s. Franco Fontana has published several books about the United States, all different.

Book from my personal collection, in very good overall condition but with a scratch on the bottom of the spine that does not affect the pages inside the book or the photographs at all, see photo. Shipping is securely protected and international tracked mail is guaranteed. For multiple purchases, combined shipping is possible with a refund of any excess postal fees paid via Paypal.
