L'Isola dei siciliani, by Giuseppe Leone, 1st edition (1995), Italian, hardcover with dust jacket, 114 pages, signed by Giuseppe Leone.
Description from the seller
Exceptionally signed copy by Giusppe Leone (1936 – 2024) on the front endpaper, unavailable in signed or unsigned copies, a non-retail copy from the Lions Club of Ragusa. 118 pages and 58 full-page black-and-white photographs, either on the text pages or double-page spreads, with text by Diego Mormorio. At the end of the book, a very practical diptych leaflet with the caption of the photographs, viewable regardless of the page being looked at. Gray cloth binding with the title embossed in the cover in light gray characters and an illustrated dust jacket on the cover. The copy is in very good condition.
To view the photographic series in full screen, double-click on a photograph, then you can return to the standard display at any time.
Humans are very present in these photographs: fishermen, farmers, shepherds, men making charcoal, or gathering olives using traditional manual techniques; children in communion dresses or playing their childhood games; elderly people in conversation; religious village festivals and wedding celebrations.
Born in Ragusa, Giuseppe Leone started as an apprentice at age 14 in a photographer's shop and has been photographing ever since. He was 16 when he took one of his most famous photographs, featuring a steam train crossing a bridge over a torrent with Ragusa in the background. He quickly opened his own photographic studio, intensely photographed Sicily and southern Italy. His photographs have traveled around the world, and he has published nearly 80 books and accumulated a photographic archive of over 300,000 images.
Book from my personal collection, in excellent condition with a hint of old moisture that does not affect the quality of the photographs (see photos), a copy kept with the utmost care. Shipping is very effectively protected and international tracked mail is guaranteed. In case of multiple purchases, combined shipping is possible with a refund of the excess postal fees paid via Paypal.
