Han Dynasty ceramic grain reservoir (Hu-form) from China, 25 cm high and 20 cm in diameter, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Ceramic grain container (Hu form) – Han Dynasty, China, 206 BC – 220 AD
Well-preserved ceramic grain container with a lid, dating from the Western or Eastern Han Dynasty. This type of vessel was often used as a burial gift (mingqi), intended to provide the deceased with food and wealth in the afterlife.
The object has a cylindrical shape with a slightly flared rim, resting on three small feet, and has a characteristic ribbed lid with a central opening.
The original green engobe or copper oxide glaze has been partially preserved, with natural weathering and traces of calcification, which underlines its authenticity and age.
Dimensions:
• Height: approx. 25 cm
• Diameter: approx. 20 cm
Such objects are part of the rich funerary ritual of the Han period, in which pottery models were provided as substitutes for real utensils.
Condition: good, with some signs of age and edge chips commensurate with age
Origin: private collection, Europe
Dating: Han Dynasty, 2nd century BC – 2nd century AD
