A large-aperture standard zoom lens with imaging performance rivaling that of prime lenses.By employing a ground aspherical lens in the first element, it achieves high-contrast, high-resolution image quality across the entire range from the minimum focusing distance of 0.5m to infinity.Furthermore, it adopts a 77mm filter diameter and a large front element. Combined with an optimal power distribution of the lens elements, this ensures the brightness of an F2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range plus peripheral light levels comparable to a prime lens.Focus adjustment uses a rear-focus system. Combined with the Ring USM, this enables Silent High-Speed AF. It also features Full-Time Manual Focus, allowing manual focus operation while in AF mode.
