Description from the seller
Nodding (Jynx torquilla) – 9x9x21 cm
Rare specimen of the Torcicollo, a small woodpecker from the Picidae family, known for its unusual habits and camouflaged appearance. Unlike other woodpeckers, it does not carve cavities in the wood but uses pre-made nests, and it is famous for its curious ability to twist and contort its neck in a serpentine manner when threatened – a characteristic that has earned it its name.
The finely streaked and mottled plumage in shades of brown and gray provides perfect camouflage with tree bark, making this species extremely difficult to spot in nature. The specimen shown clearly displays the characteristic barring and elongated silhouette, set against a naturalistic background that enhances its overall presentation.
Conditions: Good, plumage and details well preserved.
Naturalistic wooden base with moss
A piece of great scientific and collectible interest, rare to encounter both in nature and in taxidermy collections, ideal for enriching a prestigious ornithological collection.
Weight approximately 0.5 kg.
Shipping via courier
