Barker Brothers England - Box (13) - Napoleon III, served with dessert, Wood, Silverplated

Very beautiful Napoleon III box containing a dessert cutlery set in silver-plated, signed Barker Brother England.
It contains 6 silver-plated dessert forks (showing signs of wear and scratches from use, with some having yellow traces), each 17 cm long.
6 silver-plated dessert knives (showing signs of wear and scratches from use, with some yellow traces) 20 cm.
The inside of the box is lined with a kind of blue velvet.

Each cutlery item is marked 'EPNS, England' and features the clover and stars between the 'EP' and 'NS' of the EPNS. The 'Three stars in a clover' was a figurative mark used by the Barker brothers. The entire Barker Brothers set was made in England.

The Barker brothers were founded in Birmingham in 1801 by Mary Barker. It was one of the oldest silversmith companies in the region. The Barker brothers produced silverware in their Birmingham and Chester offices, with the items made in Chester created under the supervision of the Barker brothers themselves, Herbert Edward Barker and Frank Ernest Barker.
