Description from the seller
Large Art Deco vase by Le Verre Français designed by Charles Schneider.
Large vase 'Dattiers' (Date palm) in light yellow powdered glass doubled with orange powdered glass from Verreries Schneider in Epinay-sur-Seine, France. This early vase is marked with the 'berlingot' (see photo), which means it can be dated between 1918 and 1921. The vase is depicted on page 94 of the book 'Charles Schneider Le Verre Français – Charder – Schneider' by Marie-Christine Joulin and Gerold Maier from 2004.
Ernest and Charles Schneider grew up in Nancy. In 1903, Ernest Schneider was employed by the commercial management of the factory at Daum Frères. He had his younger brother Charles, trained in sculpture at the School of Fine Arts in Nancy and later in Paris, propose projects for vases and glass pastes. This collaboration lasted until 1911.
They established their own company, Verreries Schneider, in Épinay-sur-Seine in 1913. The company's success was confirmed after the end of hostilities in 1918. By 1925, it had as many as five hundred employees and sold its creations worldwide.
However, by 1918, Charles Schneider quickly became the sole maker of the pieces. Gradually, he moved away from Art Nouveau and developed a highly personal style characterized by bright, bold, contrasting colors and naturalistic and stylized motifs, which perfectly symbolized the Art Deco style of the interwar period.
However, the glass market was severely affected by the Great Depression of 1929 and led to the bankruptcy of the Schneider brothers' company in 1938.
This vase is about 40.5 cm high and is in very good condition with minimal signs of use.
Photos are part of the description. Will be carefully packaged, shipped insured, and with a tracking code to your home. We do not ship outside the EU or to (island) countries with special customs regulations.
