Description from the seller
Age & Origin
Two traditional tribal knives (Africa) – 19th century!!
Dimensions: 43 × 6 cm and 44 × 6 cm
Both specimens show a clear age and usage patina, appropriate for pieces that are over 100 years old. Hand-forged steel and hand-turned wooden handles confirm their authentic tribal origin.
Two authentic tribal knives – hand-forged – 19th century Africa
This set consists of two different, fully handcrafted tribal knives from Africa. Each piece has its own function, character, and design language.
The top blade is a traditional hunting or ceremonial knife, recognizable by its geometric, stepped, and hook-shaped blade form. This type was often worn as a status symbol or used in rituals. The steel shows a deep, unrestored patina, indicating high age.
The lower blade is a classic African fighting or throwing knife, with a symmetrical blade, central grooves, and a compact wooden handle. The grip is fully hand-shaped and polished through prolonged use.
Both knives showcase traditional blacksmith techniques, including hammer strike, local metalworking, and organic wood finishing. The set is not only decorative but also constitutes a valuable ethnographic collection.
