2 pieces of marked original dumbbells by Eugen Sandow (Original Sandow Spring Grip Dumbbell from the 1900 period)
Eugen Sandow, (born April 2, 1867 - London, October 14, 1925) was a pioneer in the field of bodybuilding born in Germany. He is often called the 'Father of Modern Bodybuilding.' When Sandow was a young boy and went to Italy with his father, he developed a great interest in the Roman statues of gods, gladiators, and mythical warriors. He was the first to attempt to consciously shape his body according to that classical model. At that time, 'strongmen'—powerful men—often performed in shows and circuses, challenging spectators to bet and compete with them. Sandow became a strongman at nineteen, but he fascinated the audience in a different way: with his body. Sandow had a much lower body fat percentage than other strongmen, which allowed all his muscles to be visible. He began his career at age 19 as a showman and 'strength man.' Sandow organized the first bodybuilding competition of all time (The Great Competition) in 1901.
These branded and chrome-plated dumbbells from Sandow are real collector's items. 1 x L and 1 x R (Left & Right), and they still function well. Age approximately from the 1900 period.
A cabinet photo of a possible Italian strongman from 1902 (recognized by Google AI as Enrico Scuri, Italian wrestling champion). Dimensions are 10 1/2 x 16 1/2 centimeters. The photo was taken in Berlin by Wilhelm Scharmann; see the detailed photos. The photo is in exceptionally good condition. The leotard may have been later sketched in with pencil?
1 x cabinet photo of a German strongman, measuring 10 1/2 x 16 1/2 centimeters. The photo was taken in Munster, Germany. There are two tiny, minuscule damages. See the detailed photos.
1 x a heavy leather gym ball or medicine ball, 20 centimeters in diameter. Weight 1590 grams. In perfect condition.
1 x an antique prize cup, approximately 20x 20 centimeters.
Beautiful items as decoration in a mancave or as embellishments in a rural interior, ski lodge, sports bar, country house, gym, physiotherapy room, or museum.
