Yales & Hamper brass-bound mahogany wine cooler on original patent castors, an antique William IV Regency cellarette in solid mahogany with brass bands dating ca. 1825–1840 from the United Kingdom.
Description from the seller
Very high-quality oval wine cooler (so-called cellarette / wine cooler), England, early 19th century (Regency to William IV, circa 1825–1840).
Made from solid, darkly patinated mahogany, barrel-shaped with vertically set segments, encircled with wide, inset brass handles (brass bound).
Side carrying handles made of cast brass, lion head/mask ornamentation form.
Stands on four turned, fluted feet with brass collars and heavy brass castors.
The roles are stamped.
PATENT, C, YALES & HAMPER
This speaks for early English quality roles of the 19th century (Patent-Castors), which is a strong indication of the originality of the substructure unit.
Interior: clean, dark mahogany insert floor.
Originally, such furniture served as a wine cooler / champagne cooler in a noble dining room; today, it is also highly sought after as a large indoor planter / jardinière / champagne server / design statement in the entrance area.
Runs freely on the wheels, a very representative piece with a classic country-house charm.
