This is the TOMIX 2215 model of the JR DD51 Diesel Locomotive in the JR Hokkaido livery.
The real DD51 was introduced in 1962 and became one of Japan’s most iconic diesel locomotives, used for both passenger and freight services throughout the country.
After privatization, several units continued to operate in Hokkaido, modified for cold-weather conditions.

The JR Hokkaido color scheme features a deep navy-blue body with a gold stripe and a gold star emblem, symbolizing the clear northern night sky and the North Star.
This striking design was made famous through its use on the Twilight Express and Hokutosei sleeper trains, which connected Hokkaido with Honshu.

TOMIX’s model faithfully reproduces this elegant appearance with vivid paintwork and fine printing of the gold detailing.
