Description from the seller

Pearl talisman in jasper with engraved inscriptions.
Central Asia (Silk Road), the first millennium AD.

This rare elongated pearl-shaped talisman is made of polychrome jasper, with a polished surface that highlights the natural brown, ochre, and gray veining of the stone. The object features symbolic engravings on multiple sides, composed of linear, cross-shaped signs, and abstract motifs linked to apotropaic systems from Central Asia, likely associated with protective, ritual, or magical-religious functions.

The inscriptions, engraved with a steady hand and later worn down by use, suggest that the pearl was intended to be worn as an amulet, perhaps sewn onto clothing or carried as a pendant. The combination of jaspis – a stone traditionally associated with protection, strength, and stability – and the engraved symbols indicates an object designed to protect the wearer, ward off negative influences, or ensure spiritual favor.
Auction estimates: Similar objects (amulets, carved beads, seals) from the Zelnik collection or related cultures (e.g., Pyu, Bactrian) have been estimated at auctions with a wide range of prices, often between €750 and over €3,000, depending on rarity, material, and condition.
This is a rare and unique piece of ancient writing. The cylinder is made of diorite stone and has an unknown age. The inscription on the cylinder is in a unique alphabet and is believed to be of great historical importance. It is a one-of-a-kind piece that would make an excellent addition to any antique collection. The cylinder is in good condition and has been well preserved over the years. This is a must-have for any collector or history enthusiast.
