New World Map, published by Nihon Kōgyō Printing Co in Japan in 1943, is a colour World map with two inset maps—the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere Map and the Current Situation in Europe Map—measuring approximately 109 cm by 76 cm and in reasonable condition.
Description from the seller
This is an original “Shin Sekai Chizu – New World Map”, published in Showa 18 (1943) during World War II. The map set includes a large, vividly colored world map accompanied by two inset maps: a “Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere Map” and a “Current Situation in Europe Map.” Together, they visually represent Japan’s geopolitical perspective during the wartime era.
Printed in a generous format of approximately 109 cm × 76 cm, the map features detailed political borders, colonial territories, major trade routes, and communication lines as understood in 1943. The colors remain clear despite its age, and the map presents a striking historical aesthetic, characteristic of Japanese wartime cartography.
The cover design displays the national flags of major world powers of the era, symbolizing the shifting geopolitical landscape. The reverse side also includes analytical diagrams explaining global power dynamics at the time. Signs of wear, fold lines, and age-related patina are present, consistent with an authentic 80-year-old historical document.
This map is a compelling artifact for collectors of World War II memorabilia, antique cartography, Japanese history, or geopolitical studies. It offers a rare glimpse into how Japan interpreted world affairs during the final years of the war.
