Description from the seller

A highly desirable and decorative Qur'anic bi-folio dated 1780, containing the final verses of the Meccan chapter 21, Al-Anbiya (The Prophets) and the header of the Medinian chapter 122, Al-Hajj (The Pilgrimage) and the first 14 verses. The final verses of chapter 21, primarily focus on resurrection, the inheritance of the earth by the righteous, the universal mercy of the Prophet Muhammad, and a final plea to God for judgment and help. The first 14 verses of Surah Al-Hajj (Chapter 22) primarily focus on establishing the reality of the Day of Judgment and Resurrection, providing logical proofs of God's power through the creation of man and the revival of the dead earth, and distinguishing between the fate of the righteous and the disbelievers.

Surrounding the main text is commentary in Persian on the meaning of the cases within the formal script that sits inside the rectangular framed boxes.

The quranic script is written in naskh Arabic script over 15 lines per page (14 where there is chapter heading). The Surah of chapter 22 scans across script framework and sits within a gold cartouche and is written in blue thuluth script. There is full framed margins around the scripture ruled in colours and a thick band of gold, outside of which is further decorative framing which providers the opportunity for commentary. In this case, commentary is full and covers the whole of the margins. Multiple simple 'aya' in gold separate the individual verses and there is a marginal device in the left margin in the form of a shamsa (sunburst) medallion. Each folio is 21x12.5cm.
