Description from the seller
This is an old lion figurine, possibly an application (decorative element) or an amulet. Such figurines were made in various historical periods and cultures, including during the Roman era or the Middle Ages.
Details
Dimensions: 32 x 21 x 8 mm
Material: The object is cast and made from an alloy (tin/lead). Given this dark finish, it is more likely that the figurine dates back to the medieval period.
The stylized manes and the sitting posture with the front paws slightly bent evoke historical representations of lions, which have been used as symbols of strength and majesty in various cultures.
Condition: The figurine shows signs of slight wear, indicating age and possible archaeological find conditions.
Use: Due to its size and condition, it can be used as a decorative application on another object, such as a piece of furniture, a chest, or a scale, or as a personal amulet.
Similar antique and archaeological lion figures are available through art and antique dealers, often dated as Roman or medieval.
