RIC 89, RSC 377; Sear 10996.

VICTORIA (winged Victory), personification of victory. Victoria was especially worshipped by the army and a major part of Roman society. Many temples were erected in her honour, including one on the Palatine Hill which would house the spoils of war from Roman victories. She was, to the Romans, a symbol of victory over death, ultimately determining who would be successful during war.
VICTORIA AVG (Victoria Augusti): To the Victory of the Emperor.
POSTUMUS was a Roman military commander of Batavian origin during the Crisis of the Third Century, a tumultuous period marked by political instability, economic turmoil, and military challenges within the Roman Empire.. He set himself up as an independent Emperor of the splinter state, known as the Gallic Empire.
After seizing control of Gaul in 260 AD, he established his capital in the city of Augusta Treverorum (modern-day Trier, Germany). He was able to maintain a relatively stable rule and successfully defended his territory against various invasions, particularly from Germanic tribes and Gallienus' attempts to recover Gaul, Britain and Spain.
He ruled Gaul, Germania, Britannia and Hispania for almost 10 years before he was killed in a mutiny by his own troops. This resulted in a period of instability before the Gallic Empire eventually fell back under Roman control during the reign of Aurelian in the 270s AD.
Postumus' coinage has been of particular interest to numismatists, in light of the high quality and relative abundance of his coin issues. His ‘Labours of Hercules’ series is particularly renowned.
