Roman silver ring with an oval raised carnelian intaglio showing a standing Pan playing a flute. Wide shoulders, plain ring band.
Outside diameter: ± 23,5 mm
Inside diameter: ± 20 x 17,4 mm
Condition: Good and solid condition, wearable. Good quality intaglio with fine detail. Signs of wear consistent with age and use.
Certificate of Authenticity: available upon request (pdf-format).
PAN
Pan is the Greek god of the wild, shepherds, flocks, and rustic music. He’s famously depicted with the legs and horns of a goat, embodying the untamed spirit of nature.
Known for playing the pan flute (named after him), Pan was mischievous and could instil sudden fear, hence the word “panic.” He roamed the forests and mountains, often chasing nymphs and stirring up trouble with his playful energy.
The Romans adopted many Greek deities and myths, and Pan, known for his wild and rustic nature, appeared frequently in Roman sculpture, frescoes and jewellery.
