Description from the seller

This object is a medieval tin belt mount, also known as a 'strap-end'.

Important details

Dimensions: (L) 55 x 22 x 8 mm (R) 33 x 18 x 3 mm

Condition: The largest strap on the left side is unfortunately bent (see photos).

It seems to be a belt buckle, designed to secure and decorate a belt strap.

Material and dating: The results suggest that it may have been made of tin or lead and dates from the Middle Ages (circa 1450-1525).

Motif: There is a prominent flower- or clover-like motif in relief present on the front surface.

Belt ends are used to decorate the end of a belt or strap and to prevent it from fraying. This specific type of belt end, dating from the 14th / 15th century and made of tin, was often characterized by intricate, intertwined designs featuring animal and geometric motifs.

Shipping method: This lot will be shipped well-packaged via DHL through Catawiki's smart shipping.
