Careful shipping with tracking number and insurance against loss and damage.
The first $1 bills issued by the Federal Reserve were in 1963. The design, featuring George Washington on the front and the Great Seal on the back, has not changed.
The first $1 bills (called United States Notes or 'Legal Tenders') were issued by the federal government in 1862 and featured a portrait of Secretary of the Treasury Salmon P. Chase (1861-1864).
The first use of the portrait of George Washington on the $1 bill took place on the United States bills of the series of 1869.
Since the $1 bill is rarely counterfeited, the government has no intention of redesigning it. Furthermore, a recurring provision of article 116 of the annual law on financial services and credits of the general government prohibits the redesign of the $1 bill.
