Bombé wooden chest with Bardiglio marble top, dating to 1950–1960, in the Louis XV antique French Rococo style.
Description from the seller
Magnificent bombe chest of drawers, also often called a dresser or commode, from the mid-20th century, in the Louis XV or French Rocaille or Rococo style. This style, which emerged around 1730, is characterized by curved lines, soft and asymmetrical shapes, contrasting with the straighter, more geometric lines of the subsequent Louis XVI style. The piece features a distinctive 'bombe' shape, curved on both the front and sides. The structure is made of walnut with inlays of fine woods, such as burl walnut and rosewood, creating a decorative pattern on the surface. It is topped with a shaped marble top in splendid 'bardiglio marble,' a marble from the Carrara quarries (Italy), highly sought after, which enhances its value and stability. The chest is embellished with decorations and handles in chased and gilded bronze, a common element in French antique furniture. The piece will be expertly packed and secured on a pallet for safety, so please ensure it is delivered exactly as shown in the photos that will be sent for the buyer's reference before delivery, directly through Catawiki's dedicated messaging system.
