Ancient Roman bronze Bacchus pendant, 1–3 AD, weight 24.02 g, dimensions 22.9 × 22.4 mm, from Oud-Romeins culture, inherited from grandfather, acquired 1985 from Belgium, previously in a private collection since 1966, in very good condition with minor signs of wear.

Ancient Roman Bronze Bacchus Pendant 1-3 AD
Bacchus is the Roman god of wine, fertility, ecstasy, and the arts, the Roman counterpart to the Greek god Dionysus, known for his wild parties (Bacchanalia), accompanied by satyrs and maenads, and the son of Jupiter and a mortal woman (Semele). He is the god of intoxication and drunkenness, but also brought civilization and inspiration to theatrical arts, and was often depicted with grapevines and a staff.
