A Carrara marble column estimated to date from 1910–1920 in Liberty style.
Description from the seller
This marble column from Carrara, carved, can be confidently attributed to the period between the late 19th century and the early decades of the 20th century (ca. 1890–1920). The meticulous craftsmanship of the marble, characterized by a helical torsion of the shaft, the stepped octagonal base, and the inverted square capital, are all typical elements of Italian decorative productions from the late 1800s, when display columns were highly sought after in bourgeois salons and noble houses.
During this period, Italy saw a strong development of the decorative arts: specialized workshops produced refined objects intended to support sculptures, busts, vases, or clocks. The aesthetics still combine the classical elegance of the nineteenth century with a lighter, more ornamental taste that anticipates the Liberty style of the early twentieth century. The marble used—light-colored with dense gray veins—was particularly appreciated for its brightness and its ability to blend into interiors, whether traditional or modern.
The combination of classic lines, quality of material, and sculptural refinement makes this piece not only a decorative element but also an authentic testament to Italian artistic production of the era.
Present a small chip on the base (see photo), which does not compromise the overall aesthetic of the piece.
Dimensions:
Height 92 cm, base width 23 cm, top width 21 cm, final circumference in the shape of a vase 46 cm, shaft circumference 22 cm.
Cod. 210
It will be shipped dismantled, packed, and insured.
Please note that, as these are antique objects, there may be cracks, stains, small missing parts, signs of age, etc. Please carefully review the photos.
