A hand-carved wooden wall shelf in Victorian design, made in Sweden by L. J. Svärdahl in 1890, with dimensions 20 cm high, 19.5 cm wide and 13 cm deep.
Description from the seller
A fantastic hand carved wooden wall shelf from 1890 in a beautiful Victorian design.
The piece is signed on the front edge by L. J. Svärdahl, followed by Töle Sweden, and dated 90, meaning 1890.
The carving shows a gorgeous cherub in the center, with lovely facial features, detailed wings on the sides, and a seashell motif on the bottom. The entire piece is carved with great skill and has a wonderful detailed look.
The shelf itself is made from four wood blocks that were joined together. With time they have separated a tiny bit, which you can see in the photos (barelynoticeable). It can be glued back together or kept as it is, since it stands firm, holds well, and the gap is less than a millimeter.
On the back you can see the original newspaper that was used when the shelf was made to protect the wall surface. One readable detail shows the printed year 1889, which matches the carved date 1890 perfectly.
There are two hooks on the back for easy hanging.
A unique and beautiful Victorian piece from the late 1800s in lovely condition. There are a few small holes in the wood, nothing serious. No cracks, no breaks, no repairs. Looks absolutely fantastic.
