Scheurich Keramik West Germany, model 408-40 Olive Green & Ochre Fat Lava floor vase, ceramic, height 40 cm, width 25 cm, depth 20 cm, in good vintage condition with minor signs of aging and blemishes.
Description from the seller
Magnificent and very large ceramic floor vase, produced by the renowned Scheurich Keramik factory in West Germany during the 1960s/1970s.
This is an iconic piece of Mid-Century Modern design and the West German pottery movement, often grouped under the name "Fat Lava" for its bold glazes.
Manufacturer: Scheurich Keramik, West Germany.
Model/Shape: 408 (Highly sought-after shape number with handle).
Height: 40 cm (indicated by the -40 marking).
Marking on the base: 'W. Germany 408-40' (confirms authenticity and manufacturer).
West German pottery, Space Age design, Mid-Century Modern.
The glaze is the highlight of this piece. It features a striking contrast and rich texture:
Top: Thick, glossy glaze in shades of Deep Olive Green to Fern Green, with a drip glaze effect that flows downwards.
Base: Matte, granular glaze (rustic/lava crust type) in shades of Ochre, Sand Yellow, and Light Beige, emphasizing the organic and bold character of the design.
Shape: Cylindrical jug/pitcher shape with a distinctive handle.
Good vintage condition. Considering its age (approximately 50 years), it shows minor imperfections inside the neck as well as slight signs of use or wear consistent with its age (patina), without affecting its overall appearance.
The vase will be packaged with the utmost care (double box) and will include a tracking number to guarantee delivery in perfect condition.
