The 2-8-0 was introduced relatively late into the industry but quickly gained popularity as a freight locomotive at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, with usage extending from the US to Europe. The 2-8-0 was praised for its versatility and served as a heavy freight locomotive for various railway companies before its use gradually declined from 1915 onwards. Although a few examples can still be found in museums today, there is still one operating in Pennsylvania!
