Description from the seller
Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos Baby clock, Calibre 526-5
This elegant Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos Baby clock, model 526-5, is a masterpiece of Swiss watchmaking from the 1950s-1960s. Nicknamed 'Baby Atmos' or 'Junior Atmos' due to its compact size, this piece embodies the perfect marriage of technical innovation and refined aesthetics, making it ideal to adorn an office, a fireplace, or a table in a prestigious interior.
Technical specifications
Movement: Calibre 526-5, a mechanical movement with perpetual winding that operates through temperature variations. A capsule at the back containing ethyl chloride expands or contracts with thermal changes, ensuring continuous operation without manual intervention.
Maximum deviation of about one minute per month, with precise regulation capable of reducing the deviation to 30 seconds per month.
Dial: White enamel dial, elegant and minimalist, with black Arabic numerals at the 3, 6, 9, and 12 o'clock positions, complemented by gold brass arrow-shaped indices. Dial diameter: approximately 12 cm.
Case: Gold-plated brass with a fine gold finish, featuring five glass panels that provide a full view of the sophisticated mechanism. Dimensions: 22.3 cm (height) x 17.9 cm (width) x 13.5 cm (depth). Weight: approximately 3.5 kg. Small micro-scratches on the invisible hinge visible to the naked eye.
Pendulum: Torsion pendulum with thick-lined inscriptions, characteristic of the Atmos V models.
Operation: Silent, with no need for manual winding, powered by ambient temperature variations (ideally between 10°C and 27°C).
Condition: Excellent but not operational.
Design and history
The Atmos Baby 526-5 clock, produced between 1955 and 1983, is an icon of Jaeger-LeCoultre watchmaking, recognized for its almost perpetual movement invented by Jean-Léon Reutter in 1928. Its timeless design, with a white dial adorned with Arabic numerals and a gilded brass case, reflects discreet elegance and Swiss craftsmanship. Often offered as a state gift by Switzerland, this clock is a symbol of horological excellence.
