Description from the seller

Free shipping for the following countries: NL, FR, IT, DE, ES, BE, PT, AUS!!!

A 19th-century toilet/handwork table made during the French (late) Empire period around 1810-1820. The table is mostly constructed from solid mahogany. The veneered parts, such as the framework and base, are made from a light (coniferous) wood species and glued with beautifully figured (flower) mahogany veneer.
The top panel is framed with a sturdy profile frame and has a mirror on the inside. Below the top panel, there is a compartmentalization, with a loose dovetail tray inside for storing partitions with thread, and behind the lock, there used to be a hinged pincushion.
Inside there is a single drawer with various compartments, and a leaf that can be slid back; the surface covered with green sailcloth can also be hinged.
The small table features straight styles at the back, topped with a sleek plinth and various profile moldings. At the front, the styles are volute-shaped and decorated with finely cast and gilded palmette leaves and lion claw feet.
The whole rests at the back on flat slippers and at the front on flat-turned legs.
The brass hinges of the top panel have been replaced at some point with suitable examples, while those from the small leaf and the iron one that holds the top panel up are original. The lock with a working key and the inlaid brass entry are also original.
Distributed over the furniture are a number of old, well-executed, and unobtrusive restorations on the veneer.
The entire small table has a beautiful deep warm color, lovely patina, and gloss from the authentic politoer finish.
