Description from the seller
Perfect gift for a loved one!
This is one of the cameras in my personal collection.
Body: Canon FTb (QL)
Released in 1971, the Canon FTb represents one of Canon’s most reliable and mechanically refined 35 mm SLR cameras. Built on a fully mechanical chassis, the FTb delivers absolute dependability — the shutter, mirror mechanism, and film advance operate without the need for batteries. The battery powers only the meter, making this camera ideal for long-term use and harsh conditions.
The FTb features Canon’s Quick Load (QL) system, a brilliantly designed mechanism that simplifies film loading to a single smooth motion — a hallmark of Canon engineering at the time. Inside the prism housing, a CdS through-the-lens (TTL) meter provides accurate exposure readings using a classic match-needle display in the viewfinder.
Shutter: Horizontal-travel cloth focal-plane, 1s – 1/1000s + Bulb
Metering: TTL CdS with match-needle system (battery-powered)
Viewfinder: Bright prism with central microprism focusing spot
Flash Sync: 1/60s (PC terminal + hot shoe)
Film Loading: Canon Quick Load (QL) system
Lens Mount: Canon FD breech-lock mount
The FTb is known for its solid metal construction, excellent ergonomics, and mechanical longevity. The shutter release has a crisp, authoritative feel, and the winding mechanism is smooth and confident. It remains one of the most beloved bodies of the FD system for both collectors and film shooters.
Lens: RMC Tokina 200mm f/3.5 (Canon FD Mount)
This RMC Tokina 200mm f/3.5 is a classic telephoto prime from Tokina’s well-regarded RMC (Rainbow Multi-Coating) lineup — a series known for crisp contrast, strong color rendering. It pairs beautifully with the FTb, matching both ergonomics and optical performance.
Focal Length: 200mm
Maximum Aperture: f/3.5
Optical Construction: 5 elements in 5 groups
Coating: RMC multicoating (enhanced anti-reflective performance)
Minimum Focus Distance: ~2.5 meters
Aperture Blades: 8 (smooth bokeh rendering)
Filter Thread: 62mm
Mount Type: Canon FD bayonet
The RMC multicoating lends the lens its hallmark look:
Punchy contrast
Rich, saturated colors
Excellent control of veiling flare
Strong sharpness already at f/3.5
Cinematic background compression at 200mm
Its all-metal construction, long-throw focusing ring, and smooth mechanical action make it a joy to use on the FTb — especially for nature, portraits, and detail studies where telephoto reach brings scenes to life.
Condition
The Canon FTb operates perfectly across all shutter speeds. The viewfinder is clear, the mirror is clean and the body is close to mint condition with only minor hard to spot scratches
The RMC Tokina lens glass is clean — no haze, no fungus, only light internal dust as expected for its era. The aperture is snappy, the coatings are vibrant, and focusing is smooth and precise.
Photos were taken in natural light to highlight the optical clarity and the unmistakable mechanical presence of this pairing.
I feel it's time to find her a new home with someone that can take care of her and put her to good use.
The shipping will be done by courier, with the best protective packaging, insurance and a tracking code, as I would do for myself.
Thank you.
Happy holidays and happy treasure hunting!
