Description from the seller
description of the object
In Asta, a rare and fascinating Merkel methar, a folding bellows camera produced in Dresden (Germany) in the 1930s. This model is a classic example of pre-war German engineering, manufactured by 'Kamera-Werke Tharandt,' a company founded by Ferdinand Merkel, also famous for the Biottiche Reflexa reflex cameras.
The camera uses 120 format film for 6x9 cm negatives, a generous size that offers excellent image quality by the standards of the era. The lens is a Meyer-Görlitz Trioplan, a legendary optic now known for its distinctive 'soap bubble' bokeh, mounted on a central Compur shutter.
This is an interesting piece for collectors of historic German cameras, less common than the equivalent Zeiss or Voigtländer models.
