Viking whetstones were small, portable stones, often with a hole for a leather strap, allowing them to be worn as pendants or attached to a belt to keep tools and weapons sharp. These important personal items were made from a variety of stones, such as fine-grained quartz jasper from France and Germany, which was traded over long distances.
