AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Mail tongs: Merovingian fiber in bronze referenced No. 221 (page of the artist's commercial catalog: last photo).
Text by Max Le Verrier from the back of this page.
According to a fibula (a jewel forming a coat clasp) from the Merovingian period (Louvre Museum, Paris)
The Fibule
Metal arts experienced a true flourishing during the Merovingian period (from the 5th century to the mid-8th century). Jewelry and clothing accessories testify to the great skill of artisans and goldsmiths. Fibulae became characteristic of women's clothing. The wearing of fibulae was typical of Western Germans, notably the Franks and Alamans. It reflects the adaptation of late antique costume to Germanic tastes.
