Description from the seller

Date: c. 9th–11th century
Culture: Viking Age
Material: Bronze
Technique: Forged and twisted/plaited bronze strands
Dimensions: 62 x 53 x 9 mm - 60 x 45 x 7 mm
Condition: Good archaeological condition, with stable patina. The terminals of one piece are missing.

A well-preserved open-ended bracelet fashioned from multiple bronze strands twisted together into a plaited design. The piece has developed a rich green and blue-green patina from centuries of burial. This style of armring was widely used in the Viking world, serving both as a personal ornament and as a form of portable wealth, often found in hoards and trade caches from Scandinavia to the Black Sea.

Historical note: Twisted bronze bracelets were a hallmark of Viking metalwork, valued both for their craftsmanship and as a tradable commodity. Examples are recorded from hoards across Northern Europe and along the Varangian trade routes into Eastern Europe and Byzantium.
