Description from the seller

Sweden – 1 Skilling 1802 (Avesta mint)
Overstruck on 2 Öre SM 1762 (Adolf Fredrik)
Copper, weight approx. 1802 diameter 30.5 mm, reeded edge (ruträftlad rand).
Catalogue reference: Hamrin #46 / 1802 XR – Extremely Rare (XR).
A fascinating and extremely rare overstrike from the early 19th-century Swedish copper coinage.
The 1802 1 Skilling of Duke Carl (later King Carl XIII) was struck on earlier 2 Öre SM 1762 pieces of Adolf Fredrik, during a period of severe copper shortage when the Avesta Mint reused older large flans.
On this coin, the undertype is clearly visible — traces of the earlier crown and “2 ÖRE SM” legend appear beneath the new strike, particularly around the upper field and right side of the arrows.
The restrike is perfectly aligned, revealing both designs in unusually high relief and remarkable clarity.
An exceptionally well-preserved example, exhibiting sharp detail, smooth brown patina, and excellent definition on both over- and undertype.
One of the finest known survivors of this extremely rare transitional issue.
Rarity: XR (Extremely Rare)
Condition: XF (Extremely Fine)
Provenance: Private collection, Sweden
