Description from the seller
Set of 6 small silver-plated metal spoons
Apollo hallmark (Christofle)
VH hallmark with reclining lion
Louis XVI Style
Around 1900
Description:
Elegant set of six small silver-plated metal spoons, bearing the 'Apollo' punch (belonging to the Christofle house), as well as the 'VH' punch with the reclining lion and an '18,' indicating 18 grams of silver plating per piece.
The manufacturer 'VH' corresponds to Vernier & Hénin, a collaborating workshop of Christofle at the turn of the 20th century.
Each spoon measures 14.5 cm long, with a total weight of 197 g.
The finely carved decor, adorned with laurel garlands and crossed ribbons, reflects the pure Louis XVI style, typical of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
This style, inspired by the classical aesthetic of the reign of Louis XVI (1774–1792), is characterized by straight lines, symmetrical vegetal motifs, and understated refinement, contrasting with the scrolls of the previous Rocaille style (Louis XV).
The production of these spoons is probably dated between 1895 and 1910, a period during which Christofle and its partner workshops widely spread this neoclassical style, which was revived during the Belle Époque.
House: Christofle (Apollo hallmark) / VH (Vernier & Hénin)
Material: Silver-colored metal

Period: around 1895–1910 (Belle Époque)

Condition: Very good overall condition, beautiful shine, a few light signs of use consistent with age.
