After a somewhat disappointing 206 S16, Peugeot needed to react and offer a sporty version of its city car that matched the success of the lion in the World Rally Championship. Thus, the 206 RC was born in 2003. Peugeot's achievement was to offer a sporty version stripped of comfort features and some gadgets, while still equipped with enough options to be more desirable and less 'cheap' than other GTIs. The other advantage of this 206 RC was its engine. Prepared by Lotus Engineering, the 2.0L engine with a melodious sound was boosted to 177 horsepower! At the time, this was a record for a small city car and allowed it to outperform the competition (the Clio RS being at 172 horsepower).
