Handmade wrought iron wall sconces in a vintage spider design from Piran, Slovenia, dating to the 1960s with a working order and in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
This set of six (1 grand spider with a clock, two medium sized and 3 small ones) spider-shaped wrought iron wall sconces was handcrafted by my grandfather, an artistic blacksmith working in Piran, Slovenia, between the 1950s and 1990s.
He deliberately avoided modern welding techniques; the pieces were produced almost entirely using traditional blacksmith methods such as hot punching, riveting, collaring, twisting, scrolling, chiseling, upsetting, and forge welding.
Every detail was shaped by hand. Even the fine hairs on the spiders’ legs were cut individually using only a blacksmith’s chisel, not cast or fabricated by machine. The dimensions of the spider are the following:
- Grand spider: 31 x 35 x 10 cm
- Medium sized spider: 21 x 24 x 7 cm
- Spiderlings: 11 x 7 x 2 cm
Spider-shaped decorations were historically common on Slovenian house façades. This set continues that tradition, while also functioning as distinctive ambient wall lighting.
All items bear my grandfather’s original blacksmith stamp, confirming authenticity and origin.
