Ancient Roman solid silver finger ring, set with an attractive oval carnelian intaglio, finely engraved with the image of a lion advancing to left. The stone sits in a neatly formed bezel. The hoop is fashioned with a twisted, cable-like design, tapering gently towards the shoulders.
Outside diameter: ± 26,7 mm
Inside diameter: ± 21,7 x 16,2 mm
Condition: good and solid condition, wearable. Signs of wear consistent with age and use.
Certificate of Authenticity: available upon request (pdf-format).
Lions were strongly associated with Hercules as he strangled the Nemean Lion as one of his Twelve Labours. A lion's skin was one of Heracles' attributes.
