The name Franc was used from 1360 to 1740 for French coins. Between 1795 and 1999, the Franc was the official currency of France. The reverse displays the year of issue and the nominal value of the coin, surrounded by a laurel wreath. Starting in 1899, the reverse of the 20 Franc coin featured the rooster.
